GATE
 

1) What is GATE ?

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is  an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.
Beyond admissions into institutions like IIsc, IITs, NITs, various research departments and labs like DRDO, ISRO and CSIR etc. give preferences to students with Good GATE scores. More than 300 institutes validate GATE scores for admission to PG Programes. GATE score is valid foe CEED programes at IIT Kanpur & IISc Bangalore. As a matter of practice, industries have also started giving preference to good GATE scorers for employment purposes. Some government organisations prescribe GATE qualification as a requirement to apply for the post of a Scientist/Engineer.
